Tyre fitters refuse to fit my tyres!

Featured Replies

So, went to get my winter tyres put on the nice new Skoda rims ... and am being told by several fitters that "we only fit tyres that we supply".  Grr.

Can anyone recommend me a fitter in the Cardiff area that *is* willing to fit tyres that they didn't supply?

Update: Now sorted thanks (see below).

Digraceful!!

Do you have a Wilco motorsave down there?

They fitted my wifes winter tyres for £10 a corner

I trust that you did not fail to inform them that with their cavalier attitude, it was the last time you would try to trade with them.

I have found similar in the North East. A pathetic attempt to get you to pay way over the odds for tyres from a particular retailer.

Don't waste your time at Halfrauds, they won't fit anything they haven't supplied. Certainly up here kwik fit will fit customer supplied tyres and they aren't expensive, worth a phone call.

Do watch the fitter though, scratched rims are not unheard of. Also check the tyre pressures before driving away, I speak from bitter experience having once found a replacement tyre over inflated by 10 lbs psi!

Hope that helps,

Mark.

Have you tried Celtic just off Penarth Road or there is a small tyre place by the Star Centre in Splott or as a last resort there is a tyre place in Tudor Lane Riverside that would probably do it, park down there long enough they will remove your wheels too.

I used National Tyres to refit and balance two incorrectly orientated winter tyres on rims that came from Mytyres, they were happy to do it. I see National have a couple of outlets in Cardiff.

Hope this helps.

My local tyre fitter positively encouraged me to obtain tyres myself and he then arranged fitting to spare rims that I also supplied.

Anyone facing problems in north Essex such as G&T has faced get in contact with Phil at Braiswick Tyres and he'll see you right - sorry not much help in Cardiff

Tyre places near me do not moan about me bringing my own tyres - I also take my old ones away. Just cash-in-hand for them at the end of the day.

Not sure were you got your tyres from but look up the mytyres associated fitters in Cardiff. You would think these would be happy to fit internet sourced tyres :wonder:

Thanks for all the replies!

I'm happy to say I'm now sorted - a big thumbs up and a thank you to Hometyre Cardiff (link) who fitted and balanced the tyres, then swapped the wheels over for me. All at short notice, and done nice and carefully.  Charged £15 a corner, which I didn't think was unreasonable.  They were happy to fit tyres they hadn't supplied, *provided* that they were new - they don't like touching part-worns.

And I also checked the list of "partner" fitters for Tyres Pneus Online (who I bought from) - a local garage was perfectly willing to fit tyres I'd sourced myself, but was unfortunately too busy to fit me in today.

A&A Tyres and Kwik Fit in Cardiff both claimed that they had received a "directive" from the National Tyre Distributors Association forbidding them from fitting any tyre that they hadn't supplied!

Can't think why unless someone has come up with a ludicrous Health & Safety argument that they can't be sure the customers' tyre are 'safe'.

Short sighted, but not unexpected, IMHO.
