Car locks when passenger door opened/closed

Featured Replies

Hi all, I have a '02 fabia estate with comfort pack with a couple of problems. I am a tech (saab and kia) so just asking for advice (be as technical as you can please ;) ) about my faults which are:

1) With the vehicle unlocked opening the passenger front door (rhd) cause the vehicle to lock, it started as an intermitant fault but now occurs almost 100% of the time. I have to be carefull not to have my keys in the car when using the n/s/f door lol!

I assume they have door modules and that my n/s/f module is playing up but thats just a guess. Anyone experienced this before?

2) Occasionally the Electric window switches (the ones on the drivers door) reverse operation. i.e press the right one and the left window goes down and vice versa - cycling the ignition usually gets it working right again and it doesnt happen that often but would like to know whats causes it so I can look at sorting it.

Cheers for your help guys - i've worked on a lot of cars over the years but i love my fabia of nearly 5 years :D

If what is happening is the lock is moving down slightly when the door is opened, causing it to send the ground with 180ohm resistance to the lock control module, cutting the lock/unlock wire (one wire serves both functions) in between the door and passenger kick panel would be a possible bodge. This means unlocking and locking the passenger door would no longer lock the rest though, and only the driver's lock and remote would lock/unlock all. If cutting that wire stops it happening I suspect the problem is that the lock mechanism needs replacing.

I have seen the reveral of window opening mentioned a few times on the forums but not sure I ever read a satisfactory explanation or cure to the problem.

Thanks anewman. I guess i should stop being lazy and try testing the wiring - just hopeing to hear that its fairly common and a fix was known to save me some time heh :)
