SWMBO says....

"the ice/snow was so bad I never got out of first gear"

:o:giggle:

Which car was it in? As long as it wasn't the Octavia, then I'm sure the Toyota would manage the higher revs.

I was referring to not making use of the higher gears for better control in these conditions!

I know, but try telling that to a lot of people we've all seen over the last few weeks. At least the VVTi doesn't mind being revved, some of the, shall we call them, 'lesser experienced drivers' round here think that foot to the floor in first is the way to go. More revs, more noise equals better chances of moving. There's a woman in our village where I work and it took her 40 mins to get out of the junction at the lights. The secretary in the office timed her and after 40 mins of spinning the life out of the tyres, some bloke passing by took pity on her and gave her a push. Amazing. :S

You'll know the junction too, Staxton village at the bottom of the hill.

I have seen several people with Diesel automatics struggle, especially the smaller/lighter ones, the auto-clutch comes in too hot and it just spins the wheels up.

Last year I had to help a Fabia driver out of a car park because of this, even though I had no trouble in my old RWD tank.

That's spectacular incompetence, especially as it's essentially flat by the time you get to the lights!

You going to the meet on Sunday then?

As much as I like driving automatics, I'd never have another for that very reason, especially living "oop north" now. I had (I think) two decent snowfalls in 15 years of living in Bedford. Been here nearly three years now and had buckets of snow every year so far!

The lady in question does fit into that category. As for the meet, it's my daughter's 2nd birthday and we're playing host to a bunch of toddlers in the afternoon. I know where I'd rather be though!
