Hi i'm new to skoda although i've owned a number of audi and vw cars before. I've just bought an octavia l&k 2.0 cr tdi. I've only covered about 2500 miles since i bought it and not experienced any problems until yesterday. When i got home after a trip of some 20 miles i noticed that the thermostatic fan was operating and there were some strange warm smells coming from under the bonnet. I've only had this type of fan come on on other cars when the engine has got overly hot, but the temp yesterday was -3 here.

My local dealer service dept. has advised me that this happening is normal on the 'new' octavia. Has anybody else experienced the same problem.

Welcome.

I've had a new Octy 2 Estate (Elegance) for about 6 months now - and nothing like that.. Someone else with a similat model (L+K) might be able to shed some light on this.

Thanks for that, but rather than the l&k model it may be more likely that its something to do with it being a 140 bhp 2.0 cr diesel. I was led to believe that this engine was new to the range within the last 6 months, although well used in audi and vw.

Hi and welcome aboard.

Welcome Rodders, and what did the temp gauge indicate?

Welcome Rodders, and what did the temp gauge indicate?

Well there's the stupid thing. As I didn't realise that the fan was operating until after I had got out of the car, I didn't think to look at the temp gauge until too late. So now I'm stuck with waiting until it happens again.

My local Skoda garage did at least suggest that mine wasn't the only Octavia this had happened to and consequently, it might well happen again.
