Reason i ask is because i was giving it some beans earlier, taking advantage of the chilled air to go from 2nd into third fairly quickly, however being used to the short throw 6 speed box on my old GTi-6, i misplaced and didnt put it into third properly and lifted the clutch up too soon. CRUNCH!!!

Just curious if the gearbox's are fairly strong on these cars?

AFAIK, they're not bad. Been used for quite a number of years.

The rivets on the diff can fail & they can whine a bit at higher miles,my old mk 1 octy vrs had a noisey box when i traded it in at 125K.

My first gear is a bit whiney, apart from that it seems sound, then again it isn't unheard of them failing..
