312mm Brake Disc Advise

Featured Replies

I've been running the 312mm upgrade, the kit was 2nd hand and the discs feel like they are warped and give a grabby feeling when braking.

I already have some Tarox Strada pads and my current discs are OEM, whilst they are a great combination if I'm replacing the discs I might aswell look at something either drilled or grooved especially if they come in at a good price in the sales.

My justification behind the 312mm upgrade in the 1st place was towing, a little extra stopping power can't hurt with 1100kgs behind us, I don't drive quickly and my annunal milage has now dropped to less than 10k per year.

What disc/pad combo's do you run?

I've run Tarox Sport Japans on previous cars and loved them to bits and have nothing but high praise for them, I've also run EBC turbo groove on cars and really didn't have any luck with them, I havent run any aftermarket discs for a few years though and hoping for some opinions on what is currently available.

I would be surprised if you find you need more power than OEM 312mm Pad/Disc combo on a PD140. I had the same kit on my vRS running 260bhp and never found them wanting.

I recently went to a 345mm brake kit on my vRS and intend to put the 312mm kit on my PD140 (Which is mapped).

If you are after some decent OEM style discs then these are available.

I have no connection to the seller i just saw someone post them up on another forum and they seem to be very cheap for a known make. Obviously check they fit your car but if they are indeed for a MK5 Golf GTi and you have a Mk2 Octavia with a 312mm Disc on then they should fit no problem

I've worked on, and driven, all sorts of performance cars and done many braking mods over many years. IMHO most drilled/grooved brake disc 'upgrades' are not worth the money and bother. I tend to agree with the post above. For pretty much anything other than track work (or repeatedly driving down Alpine passes with a big caravan behind) the 312mm discs should be more than adequate. Just buy top-quality standard-fit discs and pads.

Cheers,

I had the OEM 312mm setup on my last 2 octavia's (modded pd130 & modded mk1 octavia vrs) and never had any trouble or brake fade, nor have I felt they are in-adequate with our caravan.

Think I'll look for some OEM disc's or even some plain Brembo disc's as above.

I'd stick to OEM 312mm discs with EBC Red Stuff or Ferodo DS2500 (my preference) pads; as used by quite a few vRS owners on here.
