Head Unit..

Featured Replies

changed the speakers f+ r...

removed the door lining..

still not enough power.... it would seem to be the head unit so do I go for small amps front a rear and retain a factory look or go for a new headunit and the extra features that brings?

Don't know if the HU has pre-outs. If not, probably best to change for two reasons: a new HU may have better amplification anyway but if you're thinking amps then go for a HU with (at least) 2 preouts.

It's still possible to get amps that will take a speaker input instead of a proper line out but it's a compromise. At least if you fitted a higher power HU with pre - outs, you've got the option later on...

Doesn't look like your car is going to retain standard spec' for long. Can't wait to see what you have in mind for the 'motor'.

Anyway what you doing on-line at this time? Have you fed the cat?:D

And what do you make of a guy that keeps pictures of pussy on his mobile phone?:D

Sorry can't make any serious suggestions to your sound issue.

The symphony unit has 2 pre-outs, you need to get the blaupunkt preamp cable from bluespot. Just bung on the amps and away you go.

and.. when the cables arrive, thats exactly what we are doing to Rob's.....

Can't quite understand all this talk of changing HUs and speakers. IMHO apart from the boring look of the HU I am quite satisfied with the performance of the set up in the RS, I'm I the only one. :(

No, you're not. I did unplug the rear tweeters, and might consider removing the cups on the rears, but that is it as far as 'modifying' goes.... unless I win the lottery this weekend and I'll replace it all with an all singing, all dancing DVD/sat-nav package :D

some of us just like to break things...

I find that once I make a change, it sounds fantastic, then I get used to it (and listen to things on

home setup, etc.) and I start noticing the imperfections.

I'd say go the double-amp route, but then I'm biased! :D Hoping to get them in this weekend,

so if you come along to Thursday after next (goes into bodyshop next week) you can have a listen.

Something makes me think you won't wait that long though... ;)

And I'm not the only one who keeps cat pictures on their phone! :D

i really want to go for 3 amps but dont want the weight.

Hmm...as in front, rear and sub?

Guess it depends if you want a fast light car, or a slightly heavier cruiser! Either way, not

sure if the weight of the amps would make much difference (maybe -1bhp tops?)

3 amps and slim fast then....

its more the weight of 3 jl12w7 100kg of box and then the epx2 bass cube 50kg of dynamat... its a long slippy slow when the vol gets tunred up...

:D

I'd probably say that's OTT unless you plan on doing sound offs! Though I reserve the right to

chance my opinion in the future... ;)
