Checking Climate Controled Air-Con in cold weather?

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Just a quick question.

My vRS is the first car I've owned with "Climate Control" Every other car I've owned the heater, Air con and fan controls have been manual.

I used to find it useful with previous cars in cold weather, when the window was steamed up, to blow "air conditioned air" on it while I was waiting for the engine to warm up, as the drier air cleared the window.

I assumed the "window" button on the climate control module would do this also. But just been fiddling with it and can't hear the air-con "clicking in"

I tried manually turning the temperature down to "LO" but that doesn't seem to engage it either??

Any way to physically turn the air con on, without having to put a space heater in the car?? lol

Thanks in advance

Richard

If the outside temperature is below 4 or 5 degC, then the air con won't come on anyway. But then the air con wouldn't be able to remove much more moisture anyway...

Its quite well documented that the vRS suffer from misted windows even with air con on.... First port of call is to give off the interior glass a good clean as any dirt will make this even worse.

Hi,

I don't have a steamy window problem as such, but I did find that clearing windows with air-con is very effective instead of waiting for warm air.

My real concern although I didn't actually put it, is that if air-con goes too long without being used it's not good for it!! Or perhaps I have a bit of O.C.D when it comes to knowing that everything will work when I want it too!!

I find a huge difference between auto and econ modes when it comes to clearing the screen - switching onto econ in this weather will have mist appearing after a couple of minutes.I find the best bet is to turn the aircon to high as soon as the car's running, hit the windscreen button and aim the side vents at the side windows. If your recirc motor hasn't packed in it's also a good idea to go back to high and hit it before you turn the car off, as that seems to stop a lot of damper air getting in overnight.
