AIR CONDITIONING/BLOWER PROBLEM 58 ELEGANCE ESTATE

Featured Replies

Octavia Elegance 1.9 TDI Estate

58 reg (December 2008)

15000 miles

I noticed, this morning and evening, that hot air is being blown out of the side vents, but nothing is coming out of the centre ones.

None of the directional blowing options was selected.

The car has just had its second annual service (it's on fixed servicing and, up to now, has done a lowish annual mileage, although it's likely to become the main workhouseshortly and mileage will shoot up.)

This service was done at the garage from which I bought the car new. They are ex-Skoda (now Daihatsu/Isuzu) and I have great faith in them (problem is they're quite a distance from my very rural location.) I'm pretty sure that this phenomenon wasn't there before the service: this is the first time the car has had a really substantial drive and I noticed it straight away. I remember that, before the service, the garage said (in response to my enquiry) that nothing needed to be done to the AC.

Any thoughts about this, especially:

1. Cause of the problem;

2. Is it likely to be connected with the serviuce;

3. Is it likely to be expensive?

Any help really welcome.

Assuming the system is set to automatic, that's exactly what I'd expect in mine. If you want the air from the centre vents as well you'll need to select them manually.

The centre vents do kick in eventually ,automatically, when chilled air is needed in hot weather, but the priority seems to be with the outside vents and the foot level ones.

Thanks very much for this, Gregoir. Actually, I should have made clear that I was wondering whether this was 'normal': it looks as though it is, because, yep, the system was on auto.... Probably, I'm fussing about nothing, but I'd still welcome any other observations. Many thansk to you and anyone else who contributes.

Mine works the same as this - the centre vents pass next to no air when it is cold outside and hot air is being used to warm the cabin with the Dual Zone Climate set to Auto. Can't remember what happens when it is a bit warmer outside and the system is on Auto.

If I turn to LO then freezing air blows out of the centre and side vents.

Thanks to both of you - all very reassuring!
