Dension Gateway 5 GWF1V21 working fine in Octy II facelift

Featured Replies

Hi all.

Just thought id let you all know that i have successfully installed a Dension Gateway 5 in my octy II facelift. (MY11) .

So far its working fairly well. I also ordered the Gen 5 cradle as well..

Fairly simple to install.. Remove Headunit (columbus)

Remove Climatronic controls

Remove glovebox.

Dension supply a dual FAKRA connector which plugs into existing loom and back to the headunit.

Pull existing FAKRA connector to LHS channel to plug dension loom into Otherwise columbus wont fit back!

Route Gateway 5 connector loom to behind climatronic panel.

I ran my microphone up over the steering column via the fusebox and up the Drivers side A pillar. The mic sits on the A pillar near the roof.

Plug back in Columbus

Pair your phone with pin code 0000

Run the USB/Control box to the hole in the glovebox and mount

Mount your IPOD crade where you see fit (still havent done this - mine is currently just sitting on the floor.

Test system

Put car back together.

The IPOD connectivity is awesome. great sound quality and the phone part is also quite good (just like the fiscon you can control from the HU)

Had a few issues originally with the phone not connecting sometimes when you started the car but thats only been when paired up to my Iphone 3GS. I have had it paired to my HTC HD2 for the past few days and pairs everytime.

A few other things that are a little annoying...

If you are on a call and you unlock the car the Dension pairs up and you lose speech until you put the key in.

If you have 2 phones paired up to the Gateway there is no way of selecting which one you want to connect. It will automatically connect to the last paired phone.

I have logged a support ticket with Dension and they have been very helpful so far.

But overall im quite impressed. The unit cost me approx $360 landed in AUS with the IPOD cradle. A lot cheaper than a MDI and genuine bluetooth.

Thanks for description. How does it integrate with Columbus (I'm really interested in the phone part)?

It integrates exactly the same way as the fiscon unit does.

You hit the phone option and you get all the same info etc.

If you have option 77 turned on you also get it on the MFD and can control it using steering controls.

I'm planning to purchase it too but I'm not sure which model I must select for MY2007 Octavia with RNS-510 - GWF1VC1 or GWF1V21. Dension compatibility chart does not show this combination as possible and their support is unsure too.

I've read somewhere than basically both units are identical, only the DIP switch settings on the back differs. You must have a GWF1V21 - could you, please, post your DIP switch settings?

Looks like a great piece of kit!

Do you know if it allows voice control/dialling?

Well mine has voice control on the head unit itself.

It works... sort of...

if you are on the phone screen on the columbus and you hit the voice dialling it does seem to work fine, but maybe its my Aussie accent that it doesnt pick up properly... Half the time it dials someone completely different!
