A Guide to Yeti DNA, MY10 & 11


The Plumber

My take a while to put together fully but I will endeavour through part numbers to trace the origins of the major components that make up the Yeti.

Body

Upper body panels

All = 5L Yeti (obvious really)

Engine bay structure and plenum chamber

All = mix of 5L Yeti & 1K Golf V

e.g. suspension strut dome Golf, side member Yeti

Floor pan

All = 1K Golf V (front seat supports; 5L Yeti)

Rear seat base, boot floor and rear wheel wells

All = 5L Yeti (odd bracket; 1K Golf V)

Door hinges

Front upper

All = 8K Audi A5

Front lower

All = 7N Alhambra

Rear (upper & lower)

All = 8K Audi A5

Seats

Front seat base; manual & electric (+ rails)

All = 8R Audi Q5

Note: other lower sear components including draw primarily; 5N Tiguan

Front seat backrest frame

All without lumber support = 5L Yeti

With Lumber support = 3T Superb II or 5N Tiguan

Note: lumber support mechanism 5N Tiguan

Rear seats

No parts brake down of outer seats; listed as full assembly 5L Yeti

Centre rear seat backrest frame

All = 1K Golf V

Steering

Steering wheel and multi function controls (if fitted)

All = 3T Superb Mk2 (some 3 spoke wheels could be 5L Yeti)

Steering gear, column and tie rods

All = 1K Golf V

Front Axle

Assembly carrier

All = 1K Golf V

Note;

Cast alloy carrier 5 piece (production start to 01/08/10)

Pressed steel single piece (02/08/10 to date)

Wish bones

All = 1K Golf V

Note;

Rear wish bone bearing console design (production start to 01/08/10)

Additional note; Although the new pressed steel carrier and wish bones have a Golf V component part number, the Yeti and Superb were the first vehicles to be fitted with these components (in Europe anyway). At the end of October 2010 the VW Caddy also started to use this new arrangement.

Anti roll bar

4x4 = 3T Superb Mk2

2wd = 1K Golf V

Wheel bearing housing

All = 1K Golf V

Wheel bearing

All = 1T Touran (possible in some specifications 1K Golf V)

Shock absorber

All = 3C Passat or 1K Golf V (various ratings depending on specification)

Coil spring

All = 1K Golf V (various ratings depending on specification)

Drive shafts

All = 1K Golf V

Rear Axle

Support frame

4x4 = 5N Tiguan

2wd = 5N Tiguan (production start to 31/05/10)

2wd = 1K Golf V (31/05/10 to date)

Note: Tiguan frame uses a 'floating' system of mounting to chassis via rubber vibration mounts. Golf frame mounted directly to chassis.

Wheel bearing housing

All = 3C Passat

Wish bones upper, lower, axle guide, track rod and anti roll bar

All = 1K Golf V

Wheel bearings

4x4 = 8J Audi TT Mk2

2wd = 1T Touran

Shock absorber & coil spring

All = 1K Golf V (various ratings depending on specification)

Rear drive shafts

4x4 = 3C Passat

Cardan shaft

4x4 = 1K Golf V

Wheel rims

All 17" alloy = 5L Yeti

All 16" alloy = 3T Superb II

7Jx16 steel = 3C Passat

6Jx16 steel (spare) = 8P Audi A3 Mk2 (probably why it's so expensive)

Brake system

Master cylinder

All = 1K Golf V

Servo

LHD = 1K Golf V

RHD = 3C Passat

ABS + ESP

All = 1K Golf V

Note:

ABS+ESP system updates 02/11/09, 31/05/10, 13/09/10 & 08/11/10

ABS updates 02/11/09 (for system without TPM)

Brake pipes and hoses

All = 1K Golf V

Note: rear brake hoses from production start to 01/11/09 = 1Q Eos

Electric vacuum pump (automatic models)

All = 1J Golf IV

Vacuum pipes

All = 1K Golf V

Brake discs, front & rear

All = 1K Golf V

Front cover plate

All = 1K Golf V

Front brake carrier housing

All = 1K Golf V

Front calliper carrier

280mm discs = none fitted

288mm discs = 1K Golf V

312mm discs = 1K Golf V (production start to 24/05/09)

312mm discs = 5N Tiguan (25/05/09 to date)

Front brake pads

280mm discs = 1K Golf V

288mm discs = 5K Golf VI

312mm discs = 3C Passat

Rear cover plate

253mm discs = 1Q Eos

272mm discs (2wd) = 1Q Eos

272mm discs (4x4) = 1T Touran (4x4; 02/11/09 to date)

282mm discs = 5N Tiguan (4x4; production start to 01/11/09)

Rear brake carrier housing

253mm discs = 1K Golf V

272mm discs = 5K Golf VI (4x4; 02/11/09 to date)

282mm discs = 1K Golf V (4x4; production start to 01/11/09)

Note: have come across a TDI 170 built late November 09 with the Golf V rear brake arrangement.

Rear calliper carrier

253mm discs = 1Q Eos

272mm discs = 5K Golf VI (4x4; 02/11/09 to date)

282mm discs = 1K Golf V (4x4; production start to 01/11/09)

Rear brake pads

253mm discs = 1K Golf V

272mm discs = 5K Golf VI (4x4; 02/11/09 to date)

282mm discs = 1K Golf V (4x4; production start to 01/11/09)

Hand brake lever

All = 1Z Octavia II

Brake pedal, accelerator pedal and clutch pedal

All = 1K Golf V
