V6 Estate -VAT Free Good buy?

Featured Replies

Hi Folks

Been looking for a replacement for my ageing Audi All-Road for sometime. Need 4WD estate plus auto but also need fare bit of power as I tow a caravan.

If Skoda did the 170 diesel in auto that would be ideal but at the moment they dont.

What they do offer is the V6. Now I know it likes a drink but I can live with that, IF the car is fun to drive and makes a nice sound.

Diesel Estates appear to take forever to arrive, any idea on the petrols?

Finally now would appear to be a good time to order, VAT free (well Skoda pay it) do you think there is room for discount on V6 with threat of fuel price rises? Maths not my strong suit, any idea how much will be knocked off list price of V6 with about £3K of extras please?

Hold up a few weeks, the new B7 Passat might have the spec you want.

It's a much smaller car though. (Although that doesn't make it a small car by any means!)

I'm looking to chop my current car in for a family estate (baby due in just under 2 weeks!) and the Superb is currently the most likely candidate. Due to the discounts being offered on the petrol models then it's quite likely I am going to end up with one of those rather than wait for a diesel. When I work out the cost of ownership over a planned 3 years there is very little in it, even including fuel costs.

I'd be wary of the 3.6 engine though. I had the earlier 3.2ltr version of that engine in an R32 and it was comically thirsty on fuel. More so than my current car with it's 4.8ltr engine!

I take it you didn't buy the Allroad because you needed the raised ride height?

Worth remembering the Superb 4x4 has the same standard ride height as the 2WD's.

There is rumour of a Superb Scout being not too far away with raised ride height and underbody protection similar to that of the Allroad...

Been reading posts from owners of the V6, who claim to average around 28mpg, now that is only slightly worse then I am getting from my diesel All-Road!

I would be happy with anything in the 20s.

What sort of discount should I attempt to get from the dealer? I know they can play hard ball on the diesels but on V 6 if I am flexible on colour/ spec?

If all attempts to haggle fail, any one used Drive the Deal?

Do use ride Hight to adjust but only occasionally, not a deal breaker. Plus it's about the biggest worry for failure as Audi gets older.

How about an Octy vRS Estate - those come with the 170 CR engine and dsg ?

A little small for my needs, plus ride comfort is great on Superb. Nothing against vRS just really like Superb. Great value for money, new All Road to same spec is about £48K!!

I think you'd be looking at £28K or thereabouts sitting in your garage! Mine took 9 weeks for delivery......obviously not many are ordered! If you're happy with fuel consumption in the 20's then you're laughing. On a decent run, i've had 31.8 showing on the maxidot. Conversely, I've had 15.4 showing when doing a shorter trip in traffic! It's a fast car......much faster than you'd actually think looking at the specs ( 260hp seems a bit tame. )

Thanks Red Dog, had a Volvo T5R estate before the Audi which was about 250bhp, fast and fun but as it was front wheel drive, wheel spin was a problem (complained to dealer front tyres bald at 9k miles, he said your lucky some people got threw a set in 3k!).

How are you enjoying your V6? any options you recommend or regret either getting or indeed not getting?

Sadgit1, Welcome to briskoda.

I noticed you were in London, It might be worth giving James at Allams a call as he is only in Epsom and has been known to do a good deal. Always worth a call.

Hope youre getting commission on these recommendations :D

It's a nice motor. It's a shame it's only got a 60 litre fuel tank......should have had 80 litres! I've got 2 annoying rattles in mine. One is a loose speaker or whatever it is inside the passenger door handle. The other is an intermittent pattering sound when it's idling. This noise goes as soon as there's the slightest load on the throttle! I expect to get both sorted out soon. I got mine and my wife's Fabia estate from James at Allams. He's decent to deal with.

Both our cars are black with sunset glass. I had most of the options put on mine except for the sunroof. I didn't get HHC although it was supposed to have been standard. Skoda bunged me £555 as a goodwill gesture.

I was going to buy a merc estate but that was £46K and they only offered me £8K for my Landcruiser. James gave me £15K.

For the money, I don't think you can beat them. Make sure you get the 3 spoke wheel with the paddles. I don't use them very often but the wheel is much nicer to hold, I think.

Thanks for that suggestion. I am in Harrow North London, my closest dealers are Willis in Ruislip and City Gate in Colindale (new dealership I understand).

Did have a look at the Superb estate when launched at Palmers Watford, not very impressed with them. Ok it was a Saturday but I had booked test drive for 10am arrived at 9.45, got car about 11ish! Fuel warning light on and car filthy (less then 100 miles on clock). Sales guy clearly not bothered about making a sale, very low P/X offer and nothing off list, Estate only just launched (to rave reviews) but I do like to feel wanted by the dealer and enjoy a good haggle!!

Looks like a trip to epsom is on the cards for the weekend . Will deff get 3 spoke wheel, did not get on the Audi and really miss the paddles for the Tiptronic box, now if I had it I may not use much but when you don't have it just keeps annoying.

Sorry but do you need HHC on an Auto?

Edited by sadgit1

You don't strictly need HHC on an automatic but because of the way DSG gearboxes having HHC can be useful especially if you tow or drive around very hill areas a lot.

Sent you a PM too.... :)
