engine temp

Featured Replies

hi me engine temp sits at 90 no problem but were u fill up the exspantion tank it cold dont seem to get warm at all would i have a air lock it has about a month ago it had a thermostat fitted thanks if it is wots the best way to fill it so i dont get a air lock thank

If I've translated that into English correctly, the answer is that the expansion tank doesn't have coolant circulating through it, so while the coolant that goes into it might be hot when it gets there, it won't stay hot. Either check the temperature (carefully, and not by opening the bottle unless you want a faceful of steam [real steam, not hot water like you get from a kettle]) just after the guage hits 90, or don't swaet it; it's normal.

There is a small circulation of coolant in the expansion tank via the small bore degas pipe which joins the tank near the top. At higher water pump speeds, coolant and any vapour will flow into the tank. This is why the tank is always hot after the engine has been worked.

Vent the cooling system via one of the heater hoses at the bulkhead junction. It has a longer stub (feel for it) and can be withdrawn after loosening the clip to reveal a vent hole in the metal stub. Elevate the header tank to make bleeding more effective.
