Removing piston from rear brake caliper

Featured Replies

As per my other thread; I have (hopefully) managed to get hold of new seals for my rear caliper (M.O.T. failure; leaking). I intend to swap them out soon.

Has anyone done this?

I have a wind-in/out tool. Is it just a case of removing the piston as per Haynes manual or is the piston attached to the handbrake mechanism somehow? (basically, I don't understand how the handbrake works/why you have to rotate the piston to remove it)

Ive done it when i unseized one of my rear calipers, they come out easy, altho i did put airline onto brake pipe feed into caliper and just blew it out,

Handbrake works on like a self tapper screw system, the handbrake lever been the self tapper,

Getting it out is the easy bit getting it back in again you will need a extra pair of hands to hold the seal while you place piston back in

OK, sounds easy enough. (famous last words!)

Thanks
