ADDITIVES FOR THE CR TDI ENGINE

Featured Replies

Hi comrades,I have always put additives in my diesel engines the TDI's and I have absolutely seen a great difference, however with the new CR TDI engine I am not sure what to do,I did have in a previous life a Fiat Stilo 1.9jtd a cr engine and I did put redex in that but with the DPF would this get damaged ? any one in the know!emoticon-0148-yes.gif

I have heard that it "May cause damage to the DPF" ...Thats all I know I'm afraid

Shame because even engineers say that additives work

If you like additives then Millers plan to amend their labelling soon on Ecomax to include Euro V cars with DPF.

The worry with DPF is that any product which produces ash when burnt will block the DPF. This is one of the reasons VAG spec 507 oil is used as its a low ash oil. Some oil always gets burnt in the life of a car and its this which eventually clogs the DPF. DPF should last the life of the car if looked after. I would expect the odd bit of additive is unlikely to produce any measurable amount of ash but its up to you.

When out of warranty I may well use some Ecomax.Only when they amend the labelling though.

Some folks use 2 stroke oil in their car. Jaso FC spec 2 stroke oil burns cleaner than diesel and lubricates you fuel pump. Also has detergents.

I wouldnt currently recommend any of the above on a new car. Diesel now has 5% biodiesel which is an excellent lubricant for your fuel pump.

Its all a matter of choice really

Millers I will have a butchers:thumbup:

Hello Seb, raisbeck speaks wise words as he always does. I too would wait for now. I'm sure it wouldn't hurt but why take the risk! You should only ever need it once or twice a year anyway. Modern diesel is so clean and as long as you steer clear of long term supermarket diesel use, the injectors will be fine.

Hi estateman thanx I have decided to wait a wee while I only use shell now never use the supermarket sludge, you say couple times a year is fine but I put redex every full tank used around 25%of the bottle rather than half as recommended by redex, and once a year I use the redex premium stuff gold bottle its around £20 in halfords, the difference in the 14 tdi is amazing its hard to stop her taking off,I now she's only got 3 pots but she takes of better than the superb 2 s used to no problems at all, would this damage the little 1.4 at all

Hi Seb, no the Redex will not damage the engine, but it does dent your wallet. It just makes each gallon more expensive and it really isn't needed that often. It's main purpose is to clean the injectors and fuel lines. If they are already clean it won't do anything. You won't lose any performance if you just use it twice a year for example. I use it just once a year with noticeably good results. Others who I know have laughed at me using it - believing it's all a load of cobblers to get us to spend more money on our cars. But I persuaded my sceptical neighbour who has a BMW 2.0ltr Coupe diesel to use it after 3 1/2 years of motoring and has never using anything like that before, and he was speechless at the results. The car was transformed with much better pick up and better fuel economy and no more smoke from the exhaust either. He promptly filled his garage with Millers and now goes around convincing everyone to use it in their diesels once a year.

Hi estateman it does really make a difference I have the 1.4tdi 3 pot which had about 40k on it when I purchased it,it had full service history but for a 08 plate seemed quite a lot but apparently it was all motorway driving and the previous owner never went over 60mph,so I have put another 3k on it since November I would imagine that they have never put redex or similar so I thought better to put some redex in,say's on the container every tank full add the redex so you reckon 2 -3 times a year is ample

Try searching 'cerium oxide'

There are additives out there that contain it. Wynns DP3 being one of them. There is actual scientific research on this stuff. Its also sold in its purer form and is used by various bus companys as it gives real world savings as well as clean engines. Its basically a fuel borne version of what gets added in small quantitys for regen in cars like volvos with a separate tank. The downside is a little ash is produced which can block DPF over time. But if you use DP3 maybe twice a year the ash would be miniscule

Try looking up Envirox. Its a low dose cerium oxide and is cheap with proven benefits in the bus/haulage industry.

Edited bit........Disclaimer ! I dont recommend you use any of these. Do your own research and make your choice. All the info is out there. Its just up to you whether you choose to ignore the Skoda 'no additives' recommendation.

I will keep on using in the 1.4tdi but wait a while before adding to the new fabia cr tdi
