Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 available anywhere?

Featured Replies

I've just visited two tyre places that I normally use and they have phoned about half a dozen tyre suppliers, including Goodyear, and there are no Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 available anywhere in 205/45/16 83w size and rating (tried for ZR and Y too) . Goodyear themselves said they have no dates listed for next batch manufacture date. I've searched a few reliable places online myself and have found none (ATS have them on their site but have no stock).

I'm beginning to think they might not be making them in the 205/45/16 size any more.

Has anyone bought any recently?

If not I'm just going to go with Uniroyal Rainsport 2 or Rainexperts, good tyres but I really do prefer the GSD3's, best tyre I've ever used.

I thought that tyre had been discontinued altogether?

I tried to get them in 15" a few years back and was told they werent made anymore?

I maybe got dodgy info!!

You're right, I've just quickly looked at the 3 common tyre sites (MyTyres, Camskil and BlackCircles) and GSD3s are either not shown or not in stock. I knew Rainsport 2s were hard to get hold of, but didn't realise the Goodyears were too.

This might be useful.

So for our size: http://www.tyresearcher.com/TyreSearch_All_205-45-16-.html

It's a price comparison website for tyres. Unfortunately GSD3s in that size are not listed.

No, they just stopped making certain sizes a few years back but you can still get the tyre in more common sizes. IIRC someone emailed them complaining about them stopping manufacturing a certain size for MX-5's and one their head honchos actually replied and committed to re-introducing the size, which they did.

Edit: found the story http://www.mx5oc.co.uk/forum/forums/p/8542/45686.aspx

Tyre manufactuers will make a batch of tyres at a time. For example, if they made a batch of f1s on 30th of april 2010 they may not plan on manufacturing more untill 20 feb 2011, so even if the stock runs out on the 30th october 2010 they will not make them until they had planned. Silly but true!

Unfortunately I'm now all too aware of this "business model". The company I work for has recently been bought over and we are switching to this form of manufacture. Our production dates are set in stone and no amount of demand or customers screaming will change it. If a customer now requests a particular product and there is no stock we tell them when it'll be made and if that doesn't suit they can lump it. It seems the customer is no longer always right and that the economic laws of supply and demand do not apply.

In particular I believe this to be a Germanic trait, hence the long waiting lists for VAG products, it is demand outstripping supply, but it's a synthetic demand.

I'm also a fan of the F1-GSD3 but like you I'm finding it harder to find places that stock them.

Goodyear started phasing them out when the F1 Asymmetric was introduced. However they currently don't make the F1A in any sizes smaller than 17"

A lot of places will just simply say the GSD3 is discontinued - however as mentioned above they are still out there you just need to look a bit harder, or wait for them to come into stock.

You may also noticed when you do get them they are now made in Thailand and not Germany any more.
