Air bag light!

Featured Replies

Is there anything that can be done to fool the car into thinking that its air bags are ok?

The reason i ask is ive got a car that has a drivers and a passengers airbag in the seats and the new interior i have has not got a passengers air bag!

Can you trick the car into thinking it has thurs removing the airbag light?

No one!!

I think Deomn Tweeks do an airbag resistor kit that fakes the car into thinking the airbags are there. Failing that - take dashpod out, split open, remove needles & face, and stick some tissue over the airbag LED, then rebuild. ;)

Question is will any of the air bags work? Not sure about the octy but some cars have a sensor to let it know if anyone is sat in the seat, if that isn't connected then the front airbags won't go off due to it thinking no ones sat in the car.

The airbags that are there will still work.

The reason I ask this ive just put an RS interior into my ellegance and the RS has nop passengers air bag!

Surely some else has an RS interio in a non RS car and has got round this somehow!!!

I've heard of people using resistors, but don't have a clue on how to do it.

Yes if you put the correct size resistor in the loom (plug it into the airbag plug under the seat) then the car will think an airbag is in situ.

You will need VCDS to turn the light off once you have fitted the correct resistor (not sure what size it should be but no doubt google will find the size), all the time that the airbag light is on the dash ALL of the airbag's will be inoperable.

Problem solved!

Put sopme black sylicone over the LED, Sorted lol

Snap :D Except I didn't use silicone. I never realised the RS came with no passenger airbag though. Fabia always has, regardless of trim level, I am 99% sure.

Just bear in mind:

all the time that the airbag light is on the dash ALL of the airbag's will be inoperable.

If you are happy with ALL of the airbag's not working then that's fine

What do you mean the RS has no passenger airbag?? Do you mean the seat? because every rs i've seen has a dash airbag?

Its got no passenger seat airbag and according to skoda the reat of the bags will still work in the car!!!

Personally I would get a second opinion then as I was told exactly the opposite - when there is an airbag 'fault' (or one is not connected) they are all disconnected.

This myth is not true.

The airbag controller will send the same 'ignite signals' as it would if there was no fault. Even when it detects a fault with an airbag, it still sends the signal in the hope that it will deploy despite the fault.

I assume that OP is talking about the side airbag in the passenger seat.

This can be disabled by VCDS, etc, in which case the airbag light will flash a warning for 12 seconds and then go out.

The other option is to fit a resistor to fool the airbag controller that the igniter is good. In this case you don't get a warning.
