Steering angle/ESP

Featured Replies

Is it possible that a badly tracked car could cause issues with the ESP and throw up a fault with the steering wheel controller. I had both track rod ends replaced last week and had to have the car tracked, they tracked the car without centreing the steering wheel. Could this cause sensor problems on an ESP equipt car ??

I'm not certain, but I suspect really bad tracking might, because ESP measures wheel speeds using the ABS sensors, and command direction using the steer angle sensor.

However, I don't think you could achieve the effect you're suggesting short of having one rod end hanging on only a few theads (which is a safety issue regardless of ESP). Have a look and see if there seems to be much more thread visible on one track rod than the other.
