FLASHING ENGINE FAULT LIGHT

Featured Replies

Wife's Polo 9N with 1.4 BBY engine started showing that it had a fault but making the engine fault indicator flash, and the engine had become a bit rough. A quick look at with VCDS after it had made its way back home confirmed my thoughts that a coil had failed, this time it was cylinder 1 coil, back in May 2007 it was cylinder 2 coil. Anyone know the latest p/n for a coil and its dealer price - before I try to get my next spare in ebay. I like to keep it "as built" so will be buying Eldor ones only and not some dodgy Bosch etc pattern part.

I'm not up to date on most engines coming off the lines these days but does it have a Mass Air Fuel sensor (MAF) my car was running a little crappy then the engine light appeared a couple of days later. Turned out to be the MAF, had that replaced with OEM one and it's run fine ever since

No no, the fault came up as cylinder 1 misfire and replacing that coil with a new one I had "in stock" sorted that problem out in 30 minutes times. With their history I'd reckon that coil failure was the route cause of that problem. (plus I took my wife's comments at face value and a rough engine usualy means a cylinder is not working)

Oh I see, that'll teach me for scanning instead of analysing the problem :D

Got a similar problem think it must be issue that you have identified with coil faults , please could someone tell me the easiest way to identify a faulty coil does it need wiring up to some tuning device or is there a simple way of doing this , also is replacement of plugs recommended at the same time Thanks
