Engine condensation

Featured Replies

When checking the oil on my Octi this afternoon I noticed some of the dreaded 'oil mayonnaise' under the oil filler cap  along with quite abit of condensation.

The oil itself looks fine (no mayo on dip-stick), and no evidence of oil in the coolant or coolant loss. So, hopefully it's not the head gasket.

I've read on other forums that condensation in the VAG 2.0 8v engine is common during cold weather and/or could be due to a blocked breather.

The car is left outside, but typical journeys are 20+miles so the engine should be running at operating temp for about 25-30 mins per trip.

Firstly, could anyone confirm that condensation and the 'mayonnaise' is common/nothing to worry about on this engine?

Secondly, are there any breathers on the engine that could be blocked, if so where are they and are they an easy diy job to check/clean/unblock?

Thanks

Pud

If its just on the cap nowt to worry about at all.

Hurrah, I get to post up my oilcap pic again... :D

Does it look like this:

Yes, but with extra mayo in the filler neck as well.

Pretty sure if you squint close enough you could see some on the filler neck - it just condensation. If you notice the dark black patch on the engine cover in the background, localised around said filler neck - that's condensation. Always like that...no matter the length of journey, etc...
