No one likes a smart ass. ;)

If this wasn't a 'serious' forum, I'd be mentioning something with a v in it to add to the list...:D

Never stopped you in the past. ;)

If it was a 'serious' forum/s we would have half as many members posting. :D

Where can I buy one, how much does it cost, and can it then be cloned? rolleyes.gif

I used to own one of those lovely BBC Model B computers with 32K of memory, an interesting expansion board or 2 inside and attached, and all manner of tricky software on EPROMs. I hear PCs have a bit more memory these days - but what for....?

Denis, if you want one I can send you one, no problem. Unless encrypted, yes, it can be cloned.

Thanks, Jon. Just curious about how available they are. Am I correct in thinking that the ones fitted to our cars are encrypted?

Strangely enough, I don't think they are as it is possible to read the settings.

EPROMS supplied by people like Superchips, MTM, Oettinger are encrypted. The chip is soldered to a decryption module which is in turn soldered to the ECU motherboard.

Oh and although decrypted/not encrypted, you still need the right software to be able to read the map files.
