I'v had 3 of my last cars with white wheels and keeping them clean doesn't seem to be a big problem. Once you wash your car you wash your wheels. I only use white wheels with summer tyres and I wash them once per week. At first I was going for black ones, then I had a closer look of those "black wheels with polished surrounding edge" on demo-car and they were badly scratched and looked horrible. Piano black is nice when it's not scratched.

It is easier to keep wheels clean than totally scratch-free.
