vRS Rear Calliper compatibility

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I've got an intermittent problem with my NSR calliper. I've decided to replace it, and being a tight ass I think cheapest route is to buy a plain coloured one, and paint it hammerite green. As this I've seen on here is pretty much identical.

I've bought one from t’internet, which says, compatible with all 1.8T Octavias.

It looks like it should fit, as the holes, and handbrake assembly look like they'll line up. The calliper is a slightly different shape, but I don't think it'll make any difference... Please feel free to tell me if I'm mistaken.

This is the one I bought. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=140470954376

I don't want to paint it if it doesn't fit, and I don't want to fit it, before I paint it!!!

Any help or advice would be appreciated..

Cheers

Richard

It doesnt say it will fit all 1.8t octavias in fact it doesnt even mention 1.8t octavias... it says 20v turbo and its not referring to the vrs

What about the bit where it says "Turbo, Petrol, Hatchback, FWD, 20v Brake Calipers 09/1999-12/2004 Rear LH" in the compatability list??

That doesnt say 1.8t? :wonder: Could be anything :giggle: If you look on vwspares they have vrs calipers

Hi mountie..

I realise they're not the same, I'm not bothered too much.. When you say you fitted it, did it work??

I figured if it worked ok, I'd buy one to match the other side, as that one's not brilliant??

if its for a non vented disc it will be too narrow so won't fit

Good point, I've measured the width of the caliper, and it seems about 10mm narrower!!

Grovelling email to supplier now being written!! :dull:

No there not the right one at all....Look to be honest I would NOT cut corners when it comes to the brakes at all,I just spent £300 plus on my rears had to do both calipers and discs so I know how much it is :wonder:  Was not happy when I got that bill plus wasting the money on the other calper that is ****.....So I would do it right the first time....You could get it reconed for £90 that is what my local motor shop told me ...

That caliper is totally wrong and will not fit on the vRS.

You need to buy the correct caliper for the 256x22mm vented discs. You've bought a caliper for a 232x9mm solid disc. The correct caliper is available in green, amongst other colours, so will not need painting.

I got mine here: http://www.brakesint.co.uk/
