Oil for 2.0 TDI (BKD)

Featured Replies

I'm in need of some top-up oil for my Octavia.

It doesn't have a DPF & is on variable service. Will VW507 oil, such as Mobil 1 ESP, be ok to use?

Ta

Yes, needs to meet VW 507 spec.

I'd check Opie Oils and it'll give you a list. The correct Mobil 1 type will be on there, as well as Castrol Edge as well as some others - probably Fuchs and Motul, among others.

If you change it onto fixed servicing, which personally I think is the safer bet for Diesel engines, you only have to use VW505.01 I've started to use Camskill for my oil aswell as my tyres, I find them very competative.

if you have a DPF then you must use 507.01 regardless of service regime. 505.01 will contaminate the DPF quickly and cause it to fail.

Ok, thanks. I'll get myself on the opie oils website as I think their offer runs out today.

The OP doesn't have a DPF. I don't see the point in using 507.01 if you don't need to, its so expensive and as for variable servicing, I think an oil filter should be changed in a Diesel every 15,000kms (if not less) regardless of how long the oil will last.

Just my opinion of coarse.

Personally, i would use the Longlife 507.01 oil as its a superior oil anyway. I do, but i will have the car serviced once a year (approx 10k miles), not when the car tells me a service is due.

Variable servicing is great but the trouble with it is if you dont do many miles it could be 2 years between services. I'd rather it gets looked at once a year.

Its not that expensive either imo, around £35 for 5ltrs and less than a tenner for 1tr top-up.

Don't see why - they haven't spent millions on R&D for you to change it after 10k miles. Might have needed a new filter and oil change every 10k about 20years ago but not nowadays. I think that it is Cadilac that have a 100k mile service interval on some of their cars...
