A weekend full of mods

Featured Replies

I Popped over to Clive's (Westallc) on Sunday to have some mods done to my car. He set out to do;

1. remove sai

2. remove n249 and n112

3 run new vac lines

4 simplify brake servo line

5 simplify charcoal canister lines

6. blank off egr

7 . remove all the metal hoses and brackets not needed anymore and vac box on top of engine

8. blank off a couple of non used holes in the intake pipe

9. remove and throw away all the crappy pipes for the breather system and replace with new hoses and catch can

He also fitted some flexible hose to the air inbox and routed it into the front grill, its far better than the standard crappy plastic thing that slots into the wing.

I was amazed at how much crap there was in the breather system, some of the hoses (that weren't even that old) were nearly completely blocked so the addition of the catch can should sort this.

The car drives so smoothly, I thought the car was really smooth before but its so linear now, these are really worth while mods. B)

Clive also temporary hooked up my boost gauge to check everything was okay, this caused a bit of a red herring. I was getting a reading of 23psi in 3rd which is way too high. Removing the N249 can possibly cause higher boost so we were a little concerned. On Monday I spoke to R-tech who said its likely to be the boost gauge being out but as I was passing by on Weds to drop in and they would take a look. I popped in this morning and they ran a few boost logs and the car is running bang on 19psi so the boost gauge was the issue not the N249 removal. R-Tech spent 45 mins checking my car over and charged me nothing

Nick from R-tech also showed me the engine he is building for his MK4 Golf GTi, it looks like its going to be awesome. I must say if anyone is looking of upping the performance of their cars take it to R-tech, Nick's knowledge is unreal, he knows these engines and the maps for them like no one else. And unlike most tuners he has written all his own maps (not bought them from someone else) and these maps have been written using a rolling road.

Looks like after my handling is sorted out I'll be doing the DP, FMIC and will be going stage 2 :p

There was a customer there who had bought a K03s off of ebay to go in his Golf, the propeller had more movement than me after a spicy curry poor sod :(

Was it a favour as a friend or did he charge? Sounds like a good service to offer!

Id be tmepted also.

I would also be interested in exchange for beer tokens!

Depending on where you live obviously.

PM him, I'm sure he might be able to sort you guys out. He's down in Wokingham. Please remember this isn't a 5min job he was slaving under my bonnet all Sunday doing it, so don't expect a freebie

yeah thanks Bodge  it's the same setup as yours was only my engine bay is filthy. I'm going to order some nicer silicone hoses and swap them over.

Haha that's all good, definately good to keep it in the Brisky family! Are you secretly missing the vRS, or are you too obsessed with your new exhaust note?!

Yeah that was a good reliable setup that. Never had any problems with it, and it had a good road test when I drove to Italy and back (from Yorkshire)! So it's pretty bomb proof.

Good to see the can stay in the community. I bought it through Jay's group buy originally, so it's passed through the hands of 4 members now!

If you do get some new flouro-lined silicone hoses, then I'd recommend getting them in black, because the oil vapours did eventually stain and discolour my blue hoses. It may be because of the quality of hose, but just a thought. I got mine from Auto-Performance as they are just down the road from me. I think Bowders had the same discolouring on his blue hoses, so I think black is the way to go on them.

Back to your OP, that's a classic with Ebay turbos! My mate bought some shady Garrett turbo for his 200SX off Ebay, and it lasted 2 weeks before it went bang! It was new, but obviously some horrible cheap Chinese copy.

Check out our video of how bad the counterfeit turbos are: http://www.myholsetturbo.com/video.html Start the top video at 1:35 for the good stuff! Pretty explosive results!!
