Featured Replies

Searched and searched but cant find it, my headlight bulbs gone in a 2009 facelift. Local motor place gave me the wrong one so i need to change it and cant get broken bulb out (yet)

What a job it is to change a headlight! lol

Dipped beam - H7

Main beam - H1

5 minute job

Open Bonnet

Look down at headlamp and you will see a big white plastic nut at the top nearer the center of the car.

Take this off

At the bottom of the headlamp looking in from the front of the car where the grill would normally be you will se a Hook shaped bit of plastic

Pull this towards the center of the car and it will release the headlamp.

Slide the headlamp unit forwards until it is out and at the bottom by the indicators you will see the palstic wiring harness connector. There is a little clip on the side of this that needs to be pushed back to release the connector. Unplug the connector and take the headlamp unit out completely.

Change your bulb and put it all back in reverse order

Literally a 5 minute job at most

No experience of the FL headlights but I reckon they'll be similar in operation to the pre-facelift?

I had trouble getting the wiring connector off and then twigged I didn't need to. I just knelt against the car and placed the headlamp unit on my knees while I changed the bulb - there was sufficient slack in the wiring harness for me to do this.

Thanks all i'm gonna give this ago tommorrow, you make it sound so easy lol.

Drove 130k in my old 2006 without needing to change one must have been lucky, i blame the new style headlight switch that turns lights off when engines off :)

Confused me there, why would you need your headlights on with the engine off?

He means that when you switch the engine off your headlights (all lights) go off too - you don't need to turn the switch on non-light assisted lamps to the off position. They only stay on if you put them to side light. Kind of semi-auto headlights.

Oh, and I just changed my bulbs for upgraded ones following the instructions on this forum (not this thread) and it was so easy and worked a treat.

Ah OK, but why would this be a cause for premature or unexpected bulb failure?

All done was so easy with guide :)

You get into the habit of driving with lights on 24/7 that's why.
