Octavia 1 vrs electric problems

Featured Replies

Hi there, is there any one out there that could tell me why my octavia mk 1 51 reg vrs keeps cutting out. starts up then all the dash lights come on, then all electrics lights radio clock ect all cut in and out. /-; changed battery. checked fuse on top of battery but all seem fine. Please help. Manythanks Dean..

Check and see how hot the amp cable is getting, think that can cause the same symtoms as the fuse box, the cable might be breaking down due to corrosion

Wasn't there a rare issue with the ECU's power relay that caused similar symptoms?

ECU power relay is only found on diesels.

This is something very fundamental as permanent live items are cutting out too. It could be...

Battery - it's been changed but are the terminals tight?

Fusebox/Fuses on top of battery. The fuses on the top of the battery can be damaged but look OK. A hairline crack is all it takes.

Earth strap - check it isn't corroded. Follow it down to where it is bolted to the engine/gearbox. Check all of the cable including any chassis connection. You may need to take the battery/battery plate out.

Relay plate - on the bottom of the edge of the relay plate, their are 5 terminals secured by nuts - Check these are tight.

+1 :thumbup: ;

I've had similar symptons, and found it was a very slightly loose battery terminal.

Enough power to turn the car over and start it, but then stalled and power fickered on an off, almost as if flat battery.

If you do a VAG-COM/VCDS scan, it will no doubt be full of low voltage fault codes
