Best Upgrade For Standard 288Mm Discs

Featured Replies

Basically because i have two sets of 15" wheels i dont want to got the 312mm route or bigger so im thinking, 288mm ates's instead of the standard lucas calipers along with apgraded discs and pads all round, plus i have tarox dot 4 racing fluid for when the time comes. whats the deal with the ate's being better then the lucas calipers, i read somewhere its because the piston is slightly bigger in the fs111's is this right? Cheers

Will 288s fit under 15" wheels anyway? Quite apart from how I thought the PD130 always came with DS3 front calipers, not FS111s.

FWIW, the Mintex Extreme / ZeroSixty setup I used to have probably braked as hard as the OEM 312s I have now:

...they just overheated a lot more easily, and wore out a lot quicker. All depends what you want them for!

I've a feeling the calipers you're on about won't fit a 288mm disc, BTW

AIUI, FSIII are to 256mm and 280mm discs what ATE are to 288 and 312mm ones...

you are indeed correct dont know why i had fs111's on the brain lol post amended

Now that's cleared up ( ;) ) I think we can see from here:

...that the ATE caliper itself might actually be smaller than the Lucas one!

As I say, though, other than the bigger disc on the 312 being a better heatsink to stave off brake fade, I don't think my OEM 312s stop any harder than when I had fast road pads on my Lucas calipers with 288mm discs!

from them pictures it does look like the piston is larger on the ate's, i prefer the caliper carrier too, the lucas ones are horrid joined together in front of the caliper, just want someone to post up some specs if thats possible of the two piston sizes
