Too hasty with praise - Brake Warning Light On !

Wrote to the Service Manager at 1.30pm, requesting the prevously discussed confirmation & acceptance of the independent test & to date - nothing !

Have found a local indy garage near me (that I've used before - a while back), that will carry out a check of the braking system & do a brake test for a reasonable sum, tomorrow morning. I am sure we'll find everything is ok, but it's peace of mind. I'll be presenting the bill to the service manager or if he doesn't reply, then I will maybe go higher - they are really starting to take the psss now !

E-mails are often a waste of time, too easy for them to be ignored. I'd go down there straight after your brake check with the bill.

Easily ignored...but easy to track & he'll ignore it at his peril.

I won't get a service manager on a Sat or the dealer principle for that matter - Monday will be soon enough.

I think your missing the point, go there when its busy, they won't like the customers hearing how a car left the showroom with no brakes!

Sorry, but e-mails can be overlooked, best to send a letter recorded.

My father in law,( who now has a skoda,) had his astra serviced by a main Vauxhall dealer in Shipley before he toured Germany, when he was in the middle of Germany his rear drums caught fire, he had it towed to an opel garage who sorted it. He had new break shoes fitted before he went. When he got back he presented the bill for the work in Germany and they said the regulater was faulty and replaced a load more parts and put another claim in to Vauxhall HQ so they could recoupe all the money, rather than addmitting what Opel had said is when they had originally fitted the new shoes they hadnt backed off the handbrake!

Maybe so, but maybe my local dealer is different to yours, there will be a salesman or two around & that will be it. Don't really see how that's going to help?

Don't worry I'll make sure my letter reaches the right people.

BTW - local garage did a few checks this morning & reckon that fluid had leaked out by the front drivers side caliper & like others on here said - likely cause would have been a slightly loose brake nipple, so fluid seeped out (different story from the dealer - grit in one of the back calipers was their effort!) All was leak tight this morning. They didn't charge me, as they said I couldn't be sure I'd recover the money - which I thought was very decent of them. They'd get my custom again in the future, if I am running a car that isn't under warranty.

Thanks again for all the advice/info...will keep you posted.

Which local indy did you go to?

Name the good ones too.

I used Coull Cars in Portlethen. Like I say, very helpful & sure to get my recommendations/business in the future.

Have just written to the Service Manager again & requested some reassurances.

Write a detailed letter of what's happened.

Send 3 copies registerd post,

1 to the service manager,

1 to the dealer principal,

1 to Skoda uk MD.

In the letter state who you have sent copies to,

That should make them sort something out, as i suspect the dealer MD won't have know about this.

See what happens, as it's harder to ignore a letter.

Against all odds, I've now received an email from the Dealer Principal, advising that he will be sending me a formal letter explaining the circumstances in full. It seems that the service manager must have escalated it to him, when he realised I wasn't going away.

I'll await the letter with interest. No mention of compensation or replacement of parts, but to be honest I might just leave it at that. I've made my point & it will make me think twice about using them again. I'm tied to using a Skoda dealer with the warranty/service plan, but maybe I'll give to place at Maud a punt, if I hang onto the car long term.
