Rear Wiper Motor is knackered

Featured Replies

The rear wiper motor slowed and then finally stopped over the course of a week. I took it apart but couldn't get it working again so looks like I need a replacement. I think the part number is 1U9 955 711 and the dealer gave me a price of £110. There are some cheaper ones at around £60-70 on eBay to be shipped from Germany but it doesn't mention part numbers that I can see. I've tried contacting GSF and they don't do the rear motors. Has anyone else replaced their's and where did you source it from? I'd ideally like to get a new one as I don't want a S/H one to pack up any time soon and since the existing one has lasted 6 years it seems daft to get one from an older car!

Had the same with mine a few weeks ago,it slowed and stopped. I thought it may have blown the fuse but it was ok. It must have some in built circuit breaker. I stripped the cover off , tapped the spindle out . It was seized and the linkage on the bottom of the spindle was seized too.Cleaned it all up greased everythin.g It took some freeing off but it works perfectly now.I put it down to all salt that builds up on the back of the car in the winter. Glad I didnt have to replace mine at those prices

The wiper motor for the estate must be dearer than for the hatch, or was that a fitted price?

As far as I know that's supply only. My wife phoned them for the price. As far as I can tell they all use the same motor. Certainly the part numbers seem to be the same although according to ETKA the hatch has a B on the end of the part number.

Do you tap the spindle back into the housing (hit it from the threaded end) or do you tap it out through the housing (hit it from the end attached to the cog)?

I just bought a 2nd hand one from someone on here. There's often someone selling one. Try billy2981 as he's breaking an Octavia at the moment.

For what you'll pay for a used one, you could replace it 3 times and it'd still be cheaper than a new one! Plus if you're lucky, the one you buy might not be original anyway.

Iirc I paid about £20, that was a year ago.

Tap it into the housing , comes out with the gear and linkage attached

Thanks for the advice everyone. After administering a severe beating to the spindle with a hammer I finally managed to get the shaft out of the housing. Gave it a clean up and greased it up again and it's working fine now. Fingers crossed it'll last! A bit of advice for anyone else doing it... leave the nut on the end of the spindle when hitting it with the hammer. I smooshed the thread so had a bit of trouble getting the nut back on afterwards!
