Any cabbies using a DSG gearbox

Featured Replies

Hi, I'm a taxi driver in Manchester. I've just bought a 2008 Octavia estate to use as a taxi & i'm wondering if there are any other cabbies on here who are using this gearbox and if so - how many miles they got before they had to change the very expensive gearbox. I have just got rid of my mk1 octavia which i had since new - this had 257,000 miles on & still had the original manual box in. I'm wondering if it's realistic to think i could get 150k-200k out of a DSG?

Howya, I'm not a cabbie but I am a sales rep(for my sins) I have just short of 370,000kms on my remapped PD140 DSG. I do however think the constant stop/start nature of cab driving will make the DSG box more prone to problems. Mine spends most of its time in 6th "pushing on"

Can't help much apart from to say make shaw the dsg 'box oil is changed every 40k.

I'll be well happy if i got that sort of mileage - not holding breathe though as, like you said, much more stop/starts in my work. I've worked with it for a week now & must admit so far i'm loving the gearbox so far.

My (fantastic, wonderful, brilliant) Octy Combi has done 221,000 on original 'box of stop-start city driving, doesn't shift quite as smoothly as it used to when its cold but it's still a fantastic piece of kit and even if I have to replace it this year it'll still be worth it. I have owned the car since new and have made sure the oil & filter on the 'box have been done every 60k km. Happy motoring! (she is giving a bit of trouble today but it's the first time she's even burped since I bought her in 2006)

I know I'm going to get slated for this but here goes.............................my DSG hasn't had an oil change in nearly 240,000kms (it has had a couple of filters)

The boss won't stump up for it, I've told him how "crucial" it is but there's no talking to him.
