Geometry nr Chester

Featured Replies

Hi All,

First post on here for me, but have been reading for a while and am a regular on PistonHeads.

Got my FL vRS CR Tdi in March last year, done 14k since and since about 9k have had the dreaded sawtoothing/droning noise from the rear. Got the usual fob-off from the supplying dealer last year and had been trying to live with the prob until the rear tyres actually needed replacing, but just can't do with it anymore.

The bottom line is I'm having the two rears (Dunlops....booooo) replaced on Friday, already had the fronts done at 11k (do all Dunlop tyres wear this fast??) at that time wanted to swap the rears to the front and put the new tyres on the back, but having seen the shape of them (they really are like 50p pieces on the inside edge) I decided against it.

Basically I need to find somewhere reasonably local to Chester/North West/North Wales who can actually do a full geometry set-up rather than the usual fast fit 'laser alignment' that doesn't actually work. I've read the 'Wheel Alignment - the great big con' thread and need to find somewhere that performs the primary and secondary geometry/alignment.

Just re-read that and it does go on a bit so apologies, I do really like the car, but really need to get this sorted, along with my collapsed seat bolsters!!.

Any assistance gratefully recieved.

buckley tyres did my l&K when the sports suspension needed doing. theyve got two big rig ramp thingies there.

PS, welcome to the forum :)

Will give you a wave if I see you around north wales. :)

Thanks for the reply, I did wonder about Buckley Tyres, but the one time I've been there (with a previous car) they didn't instill me with confidence. Did they give you a before and after printout?

I'll look out for your white estate, mines a race blue 10 plate hatch!!

yup, got a before/after and its all computerised. The jig is in a different cleaner building than the tyre fitting building so looks a bit better. Havent been there for alignment for about 4 years tho so might be best to wait for other recommendations on this thread before going.

I would shoot up to Awesome GTI they did mine no problems.

Just had a look at their website, they look like they would know what they're doing, and I imagine they seen more than a few cars on the A5 platform with this problem, I'll give them a ring tomorrow.

Thanks

Demon Tweeks on Wrexham Industrial Estate... they'll do a full setup for you and you get to wander round the shop at all the motorsport goodies while you wait :)

cars booked in at Awesome on Sat 5th March for full alignment, got the new tyres today and the noise has completly gone, but steering still heavier turning left than right and slightly off centre. Also don't want i repeat performance on the noise now i've forked out on new tyres i otherwise didn't need.

I'll let u know how in get on.

I'd probably have gone for Demon Tweeks - that was a good shout. Especially seeing as you'll be nearer that side than this side :)
