does the vrs octavia have a thermastat,if so where is it ?

yes if you look down the right hand side of the engine you should see a big block of plasic pipes bolted on the side, thermostats inside this housing

thanks the rad in the van is not getting warm at all so change that first

Octavia VRS thermostat is located next to the alternator. It's a bit fiddly to get at without removing the alternator, but not impossible as long as you have a small socket set with a knuckle joint & extension.

I TrevorB33 is talking about the coolant temp sensor which is located on the right side of the engine on the end of the rad top hose.
