VRS engine juddery on acceleration with flashing management light!

Featured Replies

Hi all, this is a bit of a long story so here goes. I have a 56 plate Octavia VRS. About 3 weeks ago my engine management light started flashing and the car went really juddery when I accelerated then went off as soon as I eased off the accelerator. This happened every now and again until finally the light stayed on and I was in limp home mode. I took it in to the garage as I needed service and MOT so thought I would get everything looked at. I had the call that said coil pack 3 had gone and that they would replace it and advised having all 4 done so I did this and they said problem sorted.

So I picked the car up and drove it about 2 miles and the engine goes juddery again and light starts flashing but even more than before so back to the garage it goes. They then have the car for a week and say they are struggling to find the fault. It shows up as a problem on cylinder 3 on diagnostics but they cant work out what is causing it. They recommended changing the spark plugs as there was a carbon build up where it had been misfiring, so I said to do that.

My dad picked my car up as I was still away and he said problem seems to have gone away. Great I thought!

Went to pick car up today and after the first roundabout I come to..... Juddery engine and management light flashes again.

I am so fed up by this now, I feel so nervous to accelerate in case it comes on again. Has anyone else had anything like this happen to them? It has already cost over £1500 so far as I had to have 4 new coil packs and spark plugs, cambelt changed and 2 new front tyres along with the service and MOT.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

Matt

Was the garage you took your car to, a Skoda or independent garage.

My thoughts get it into a Skoda garage and have them give it the once over, mentioning work already carried out.

Good Luck.

Hi guys, thanks for that link. It does seem that this could be the problem, cleaning it doesn't look like something I want to take on myself. Dread to think how much it will cost if I take it back to the garage. I have had it in a Skoda garage, they carried out all the work.

Matt

Update... I put some engine cleaning fluid in with a tank of fuel a couple of weeks ago and I still have the same problem. Anyone else had a similar problem? I really just want to get rid of it now. Totally fed up!

Hi everyone, a quick update as this problem is still rearing its ugly head! I have noticed that this happens a lot more if I have been holding the car on the clutch i.e in slow moving traffic. As soon as I go to pull away it judders and the light flashes. Does that sound like anything to anyone? I would love to get to the bottom of this once and for all!

Thanks

Matt
