Laptop fubar

Featured Replies

Laptop died last night. Plugged in but no charging and won't run off the mains.

Power supply is only a month old after the signal wire in the last one went off. I've not got a multi meter to test it.

I suspect the charging circuit has gone. I couldn't get the bugger open to have a look at the connections. I'm lacking some of a small spline screwdriver.

Assuming I can get it open. Anyone ever repaired a charging circuit?

Are the breaks in the connection obvious?

I'm blaming SWMBO, she's forever got the cable twisted under putting pressure on the connection.

I'm not sending it off. If it's fubar I'll strip it and sell the spares on fleabay. The drive will make a handy external store.

I was hoping to replace the desktop before the laptop :(

I'd have a good look on the PCB where the power lead plugs in. If the power lead is dragged around the soldered joints on the PCB can break. I've fixed a few of these over the years.

Still might be worth trying another power supply -they sometimes fail early.

Managed to pop the case open last night and couldn't see anything wrong around the charging point. However SWMBO has broken one the the screen hinges and cracked the other by picking it up by the corner of the screen all the time :dull:

Need to blag or buy a multimeter now to test charger.
