Slow throttle response

Featured Replies

I've had my new Fabia TSI DSG for nearly 2 week and am generally very pleased with it. However I am having a problem with slow response from the throttle from pressing it to actually getting a response from the engine. It seems to be worst when approaching a rounabout on overrun.I pulled on to a roundabout yesterday

thinking I had plenty of time to get away from another car coming from the right but when I pressed the pedal nothing happened for about 3 seconds and luckily for me the other car was able to manouvre around me. This is not my first car with an automatic gearbox so I am used to driving an auto. Is anyone else having a similar problem?

Hmmm.. DSG has a bit of a delay if you stomp on the throttle, as the box will drop a gear or two. I've found easing on the throttle on the approach makes it all work better. Failing that, use tiptronic.

I find if approaching a roundabout, for a quick getaway in front of another vehicle, put it in sports mode and it will stay in the powerband.

But you shouldn't have too.

"D" should do the job but obviously it can't respond quick enough

When I changed from a manual gearbox to an automated clutch gearbox I found I had to change my driving style. You have to anticipate more as the transmission is making decisions for you and does this based upon various ECU inputs. For example usually when approaching a roundabout you will have your foot on the brake pedal or be easing off on the accelerator. So all the logic for the car will be set everything up to slow down, select lower gear with the clutch that is not being used, expect engine revs and road speed to decrease etc etc. If you then ask the ECU to do the exact opposite of this, increase road speed and have the next highest gear (rather than next lowest gear) available then this takes some time.

As others have said, if you want the car to be in a mode where you can apply power and accelerate then you need to have your foot on the accelerator so it is expecting this.

just use the left paddle to overide and select 2nd!
