Hi guys,

I obtained some like for like speakers for the rear on the VRS. Both were shot to pieces...

The right rear was easy enough to replace. Get to the left one and this is what i see :dull:

Basically it seems the wire has been hacked to pieces. I have no idea whether the connector is even for the rear speakers or the tweeters!

I have removed the tweeters altogether and just want rear speakers.

Can anyone advise me on how to fix this?

- what wires on the harness do i need to reconnect the connector to???? There seem to be two lots of blue/white and brown/white...you can see them butchered behind the connector covered in black felt.

According to rob's guide the front driver speaker is:

Drivers side:

BLUE/WHITE = +

BROWN/WHITE = -

So i would presume it is the same for the back. It probably wouldnt matter which wires you used once you got the polarity right.

Hi, that really is fubar!! Don't have my Haynes to hand so can't help on colour /polarity, but as I have done my speakers in past can give the following advice. There is one - & + wire from HIFI to the main 10cm rear side deck bass speaker, there is then another - & + wire that goes from this to the tweeter in the rear door. I had to cut the connectors off and solder the wires (+ to+ &- to-) together and fit new spade terminals to fit the new speakers, this meant that allthough I had a dual cone (small tweeter inside bass cone) replacement I still had the original tweeters in the rear door to provide a better soundstage for rear seat passengers. Check the other side, as long as both sides are the same polarity it won't really matter which way round you connect them. The fronts won't intefere with the rear speakers in a standard setup anyway.

As Simonbt says keep the polarity the same on both sides to stop phasing issues and just extend the damaged cable with a soldering iron and some tape. The wiring diagram is below, both the bass and tweeter speaker are in parallel.

As this is a 2 pin connector it could be either the feed from the stereo or to the tweeter from the bass unit. Connect a speaker to check.
