My MY11 Supuerb Elegance Combi went in for an oil and filter change and dealers informed me of a recall. It appears that a quality check on a batch of dasboards found that the front passenger airbag cover, part of the dash, was not cut deep enough.

As the vehicle does not have to be taken off the road it would appear that the airbag will operate o.k.

Has anyone else been informed of this recall.

Hi,

Interesting, I've not heard about any recall (yet) but I did notice after a week or two that the windscreen vent on top of the dashboard does not fit flush - this only happens to be in the drivers side. I've not bothered the dealer about it (yet) as it doesn't annoy me (yet), it doesn't rattle (yet) so all in all I thought we'd enjoy the car & see if there is anything else that needs attending before getting anything done about it.

So judging by the location what I presumed was probably a bent plastic clip could be due to poor cutting or trimming or laser machinery (I've no idea what they use).

I shall see if I get a letter or a call from Skoda over the next week & if not then I'll drop in when passing & see what they think / if my car is potentially one of those affected. We took delivery on the 10th December & I think build week was Week 45.

It appears that aside of the exterior colour we have very similar cars...

Question... how do you keep the bugger clean inside?? Tesco rubber mats all round, a hoover every week & 2 kids banned form eating in the car....& the carpet just gets grubbier every week!

Cheers for the dash board info. be interested to hear what they say.

Stef

What does the recall entail... a new dash, or Just a cover for the airbag? I'd dread to think of a dealer replacing a whole dash. I've done it on a few Audi's and its a daunting but straight forward task... But I can't imagine a dealer getting it all re-fitted properly.

How's your car Stef? I still haven't got mine yet... although it's due to be built next week :) I guess you've got the cream interior, judging by your comment above!?

A new dash board has been ordered but they are on back order. It is the laser cutting that was found to be not deep enough.

As to keeping clean, seats, these are not all leather, only the ffront and inner side facings are leather, remainder synthetic so choice of a cleaner suitable for both is advisable. My leather is treated with G techniq L1 leather guard, this is supposed to prevent dye transfer from jeans etc. the rest of the seats are treated with Ultima Interior Guard Plus+, this is suitable for all interior surfaces. The dash is wiped over with ArmorAll matt finish wipes, these keep the dash nice and matt. But we all have our own preferences, I am happy at the moment with these.

The carpets not genuine Skoda but Beige, sprayed with 303 carpet protection. Do this outdoors when it is nice and warm the fumes are bad.

When wet genuine Skoda rubber mats, these have a nice raised lip and keep all water from getting on the carpets.

Being retired now I don't need to wear work clothes so the seats will stay clean, the carpets just get a light brush and vacuum when I feel like it. Ivory trim not the best colour for a family car, but if treated as per instructions on the bottle, from new, they should look good for a long time.

Beware if fitting seat covers many are not suitable for seats with airbags.

Whole dash to be replaced. I was in the trade for over 40 years and I am also not happy with it being replaced.

Dealers do dash removals all the time and perhaps are more qualified and experienced than you would be.

The dash is very easy to remove, as the top part is completely separate from the lower. A few screws here and there and it just lifts straight out, with little need to remove any key components.

Hi, the car is as you may have noticed one or two others indicate, not too shabby, its good! It appears to be well made, well finished, everything is in a sensible place & the engine/gearbox is smooooth. B)

The only thing I would say is not ideal for me is that the seat base is quite short, they could give more support thigh support but if being really picky, you know its a narrower car - 2 car seats & a person in the back is tight on bum space.... so absolutely fine for an 8 foot bean pole :giggle:

It's our private car which replaced a 6 year old Vectra Est (which was my co. car - had about 80k miles) it was wider inside & hopefully its better built so will last a few years longer without too many problems. It will be a low milage car so I hope the DPF doesn't become an issue but it appears that problems should be limited.

I only really to to drive it at weekends - mine is a company car - Golf Bluemotion (1.9PD) which feels nippier but over 3000prm it just gets nosier. In the Superb, I've only got to 3500rpm so far & it just sounds like its having fun, starts to drink a little more then but in 6th gear you've gotta keep your eyes open &/or pay more attention to the speedo!

Keeping it clean will be a challenge, when clean it looks great, a spacious airy cabin - more space for toys when on a 8-10hr drive to the alps. So far its just been a damp cloth & a hoover - we paid extra for the Lifeshine so if there are problems then I expect to be able to get them to sort it (assuming its not something covered under the cars warranty).

Thanks for the cleaning tips & It sounds like the Skoda rubber mats may be a worth while investment. The cheap tesco's ones are ok but in the back they keep moving so it still gets grubby within the week :wall:

re. Dash, good to hear (thanks Mannyo) that its been designed to come off in sections so a lot easier to replace/fix. Maybe I'll try get thet air vent looked at sooner - the thought of the dash & other component removal always worries me, or should I say the re-assembling is the worrying bit.

Cheers

Stef

You mean that removing the dash panel doesn't result in this these days? I take my comments back then :)
