First ever Detail

Featured Replies

ive been looking into detailing my car for few weeks now and finally got round to buying the products and the weather was ok today so thought id have a go. the 3 years ive owned my fabia all its got is a sponge and some turtlewax shampoo from asda. my fabia has just hit 70k and has gave me 40k miles trouble free motoring so thought its time for a treat =]

these are the products i bought for my first attempt at a detail.

gold class car wash, auto glym tar remover and fast glass, bilberry wheel wash, quik clay kit, lambswool mitt, drying towel, wheel brush, poorboy's blackhole glaze and nattys paste wax,

first job was to give the engine bay a quick clean up. i used some cheap tesco APC for this and worked quite good i think.

next up was a snowfoam (still my fav part) =]

while the snowfoam was working i started on the alloys using the bilberry wheel clean and wheel brush

once all the alloys were sorted gave the car a rinse down ready for the hand wash

using the golds car wash and the lambswool mitt i started the 2BM for the first time ever lol dunno why i never done it before cuz it deffo works after seeing the amount of dirty in the water bucket.

gave the car another rinse then it was time to attempt to use the quik clay kit. was abit nervous about using this product at first but thought what the hell and went for it. clay took a while to soften up but probs cuz it was getting cold and my hands were dead :D i wasnt sure if the clay would actually remove any more dirt as i thought i did a good job hand washing it B) but how wrong i was.

as u can see by the pictures the clay kit is a great idea =] bonnet was the worse panel overall

after another!! rinse and a dry down with the towel it was time to use glaze and wax

thanks took me ages to do but im happy with it, and the pics came out good =]

i didnt seal the alloys no. when the weather gets better im going to take all the wheels off and give them a proper full wash and seal.

looking good, as said seal the rims up when there next clean, it makes life easier cleaning them

Nice pics, and not a boring read!

 ............good job mate....

.......by the way was the foam used wit a water pressure and can you tell us the foam brand........

Great job, the only thing missing was a polish before claying. The claying would of had less dirt to remove after a polish.

Still looks good though.

Polish before claying are you sure?

Best to remove the contamination before the polish stage surely as the clay will remove the polish

.......i think you are wrong mate...........its claying first then polishing..................

thanks for the comments, yea i used KARCHER K-Series pressure washer and the lance and snowfoam i got was

http://www.theultimatefinish.co.uk/snow-foam/karcher-k-series-foam-lance-kit.aspx

i skipped the polish stage as i was doing it all by hand and i was already feeling like popeye  . plus many ppl said the results wouldnt be worth the effort doing it by hand.

something else i have *cough fell in love with is Zaino Z8 (on recomendation from Baker) it really does give an added touch to the final finish :D IMO

Nice work and good to get a good base to work with, I think it's key to really spend time claying your car if it's your first time, that way you will then want to move onto the polishing side in the future........

Z8 would indeed add that extra bling to the final finish and works wonder's on black...........
