Cut outs @ 5000rpm - Now fixed

Featured Replies

Hi

Had a problem on the way to work this morning where car cuts out sharply, as though hitting the limiter, but at 5krpm.

I have done some limited checks in my lunch hour - no fault codes. Disconnected MAF and went for a spin. Whichever gear, at at half or more throttle, at 5krpm or there abouts it cuts power. I can ease it higher with little throttle.

EDIT- faulty brake light switch found to be the cause.

are you sure you are not actually hitting the limiter? could it be the sensor is pooped? but coz it reads its not throwing a fault?

what made you notice that? I dont really go up that high lol. only if I want some fun but of late thats never lol. not in mine ne way................. YET lol

good luck mate

cheers billy. Not hitting the limiter as this is 6.5 krpm. I was overtaking a lorry on a backroad hence 2nd gear for a intended quick pass. Rather scary loosing power like that, fortunately checked the road was clear a long way ahead before overtaking.

WOW yea fair one, When I say you could be hitting the limiter I ment the ECU thinks you are due to a buggered sensor.

Fair one thats thats not the ideal place to loose power.

good job you got black seats lol,

hope you get to the bottom of it mate.

bil

scary :S

my limiter is now set to 7.1k B) What are you using to scan for codes?

mike the joys of r-tech ;-)

oh yes, and she pulls hard all the way to it.

vag-com freeware - have it on my work laptop. Power is strong until you hit 5krpm then the dump valve opens and it won't rev any further.

Is it a switchable APR map? if so is it in the valet mode?

Still not got to the bottom of this so posting an update in case anyone has any ideas.

The car went back to into Jabba to have it's cambelt done, but as yet they haven't been able to diagnose the cause of it cutting out at 5k rpm.

The APR map was removed and standard reflashed, then data logging done on a road test. Nothing shows up, so not the fault of the APR map.

The car pulls just as hard as it ever did until it reaches this engine speed.

I found after the original post that it also cuts out turning left at speed. Everytime pretty much.

The fuel filter is next in line to be replaced. Any other ideas / experiences anyone?

Cheers

I had a similar problem years ago with my old Escort RS turbo. At first I thought it would be just the fuel filter, but it turned out to be the fuel pump was on it's last legs. Might not be the same in your case, but maybe worth looking at?

Also, had A mondeo ST200 a while ago, and similar thing was happening, but when turning either way. That one was a buggered power steering pump, and it was taking all the power to run the pump so it cut the engine!!! :wonder:
