NEED ADVICE ON A DOUBLE DIN JOBBIE

Featured Replies

Okay so i'm really getting tired of the cigarette lighter position in the mk1 fabia vrs :wonder: its too far back and thus the wire goes over the gear knob, cd player and handbrake.

Soooooo ive decided to get a double din job that does everything. What i'm after is something that has:

SAT NAV

CD PLAYER

IPHONE/IPOD CONNECTIVITY AND OR SD CARD READER

Basically i just want to know where i'm going and have some music to listen to. I dont care about whether it plays DVD's as thats just a distraction. I'm not a millionaire unfortunately :( so i cant afford to spend £1000. I'd say my maximum is probably £600. I would prefer a 2nd hand one if one comes up but i'm just looking at what i can afford realistically if one doesn't. I'm useless with electronics so if any of you knowledgable chaps could point me in the direction of some decent options it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance B)

I have just bought this:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260746230801&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT#ht_2862wt_905

and am waiting for it to be delivered in a couple of weeks time. That is one of the more expensive ones, but you can easily get them for £250. if you can hold off for a couple of weeks i will be posting a detailed review of it when I get it fitted! :)

Some ideas of the interface:

Drop us a pm when u do your right up mate as i dont often venture into ICE

For an extra £100 you'de be safer going for the genuine Skoda Columbus unit.

Safer? why?

I just wouldnt be drawn to a cheaper, unknown brand like that. You'd be safer paying a little extra for something which you know will last. I know plenty of folk that have bought unbranded car screens like that off eBay before, only to have to replace them a few months down the line.

I hadnt actually opened the one in the link, but I see its actually £359- which is what you can pick a Columbus up for.

Personally I'd rather have a genuine unit. Yes the aftermarket one might have more features built in, but if your budget is £600 you could soon add other bits to a Columbus.

Ah, I've also just spotted its going in a Mk1 Fabia- a Columbus or that one posted above wont fit.

I had a Kenwood DDX5022 fitted in my Golf and it was brilliant.

You should be able to pick up a DNX5024BT or similar (DNX denotes built in sat nav and BT built in bluetooth) for around £350-400.
