I've thought of doing this too.

The shapes do look very similar, guess your best bet would be to measure the two first.

Perhaps try a few scrap yards to see if they have any new golfs in?

Asked Eric at AAT about this last year.....lots available for mkIV Golf but the end plate is diff...end is what connects the mirror unit to the car

I was looking at an M3 style, tinted and heated mirror.

Give Eric a call he may have had some new developments....but then may be not.
