Fitted a double din

Featured Replies

Just thought I'd post up a few pics of my new double din.

For anyone thinking about fitting one - I would say go for it, I love mine - BUT it's the hardest stereo install I've ever done. I'm no professional, but I understand the basics of car electrics and know my way around a screw driver... I've fitted loads of stereos before and it normally takes me about 15-30 minutes, or slightly longer if I have to route any wires for a bluetooth mic or ipod kit. But this thing took the biscuit. Well over 3 hours of cursing. And I have lots of cuts too. Either Skoda didn't make the slot wide enough, or the Pioneer cage is too big! But, it's in there at last...

The unit itself is very good. I know a lot of people on here have the JVC double din units - but I didn't want one of those as I didn't like the menu system, and they sit quite proud of the dash. This pioneer fits lovely and flush. The bluetooth is excellent. The screen is excellent and the DVD functionality a sort-of-cool gimmick, but quite why anyone would want to watch a DVD in their car I'm not sure. I wish it would read M3U playlists off the SD card, but you can't have everything.

Excuse the picture quality from my phone:

very nice  . if you don't mind me asking which pioneer headunit is it and how much did it cost?

also how would you rate the audio quality with it on the standard speakers when compared to the standard symphony headunit

Very smart, how`d you get the skoda badge on there?

It's a Pioneer AVH-3300BT, and the RRP is £500 but if you shop around you can get them for £300. If you don't need the hands-free, there's also the AVH-2300DVD, which (from what I can gather) is exactly the same but without bluetooth.

Audio quality on the standard speakers is pretty good really. In fact, a guy who I work with who is into audiophile hi-fi kit commented on how good it sounded, so it must be good! Certainly plenty better than the Skoda Symphony unit, and plenty good enough for me.

It's just a feature of the unit to have a customisable background. Just put any picture on the memory card or USB stick and you can set it as the background.

i likes it mate, dont look like a nasty aftermarket job. looks really oem too me, good job!

looks awesome  does it have sat nav?

No sat nav... there is an add-on you can get for a couple of hundred quid, but it hardly seems worth it. Or a similar unit with sat-nav in-built is more than double the price at £700 :o
