Rattle Noise from Roof

Featured Replies

I've had my Skoda supplied Thule roofrack on my car for about a month and very recently I've had some rattling noises that appear to be coming from the roof. I also noticed a crack in the front screen which started at the very top in the tinted section and is now slowly making its way down the screen.

There's no visable damage on the screen, no chips nothing. I have since removed the roofrack and rattle in the roof is still there.

Two questions.

1. Anyone know if there's anything above the roof lining that could come loose and cause a rattle.

2. Seeing as there's no windscreen damage could I claim for a replacment screen through Skoda attributing this to the roofrack.

Cheers

I have a rattle/buzz in my Octavia lining....I bet its the wire for the courtsey light....only happens when it's really cold.

Supposedly my local dealer, Jacksons in Basingstoke, fixed it but it still does it.

Take lining out and pack with a little foam around wire.

If there is no visible external damage where the crack starts then you should ask your dealer to make a warranty claim. I know that some Octavia owners have had their windscreens replaced under warranty when they have developed cracks from the edge which were not caused by stone damage. (A thought. If the windscreen breaks during replacement, as it may well do, Skoda UK are going to have a difficult time proving that the crack was not a valid warranty claim).
