Ripping a DVD burn to avi format

Featured Replies

Managed to get a DVD from my relatives it was made from a old 8mm film I believe. It has 47 chapters but there is only 3 Chapters that I really need. The problem is that I want to rip it and copy the 3 chapters, convert them to avi, and burn them onto a cd/dvd for my own family. What software should I use preferabily free stuff or download through some sites if you know what i mean. any help would be much appriciated.

Handbrake will rip and convert it nicely, but not sure it'll do AVI. Is there a reason you want that specifically? If you're happy with MP4 or something else then it'll be a very simple method?

Only reason for avi. format is that its easier to e-mail specific chapters if they come out small enough in memory and playing them on the computer saves writing them on a Cd/DVD

Thanks!
