Gloss black paint (non-metallic)

Featured Replies

I have painted a Fabia vRS spoiler gloss black and fitted it to my car. I used 3m tape but after some baking in the sun it lifted in a few places. I removed it and plan to refit using Tigerseal (comments,. advice please). Anyhow in the short time it was on and with the handling it has picked up a few surface scratches leading me to believe that it is not going to look it's best in quite a short time. Once fitted with PU adhesive it will never come off and don't want to have to refinish it on the car so is it advisable to clearcoat to give it improved durability?

Normally you only need clear coat on a metallic finish as it stops the 'metal flake' from rusting, but I have seen a clear coat which remains flexible so extremely durable, either way it wouldn't hurt!

Thanks for the reply. I have decided to do that. I've flattened it back with some 1200s wet and dry, removing the scratches, and plan to do a few more coats of black and to then finish it with a clearcoat. Sadly it has started to rain
