Spot the difference...

Featured Replies

It's not exactly hard to see it. My drivers side eats bushes and the existing ones that are in there need changing again.

This isn't normal is it?

I assume the drivers side is the wrong arm off some other car?

Where abouts are you mate?

I'll consider it I speak with a breaker tomorrow. I know a local breaker who has 2 fabias in at the minute and I need another pipe so I need to see what sort of a deal he can do me first.

I intend on replacing all the bushes anyway.

Hello

I managed to find one for £30 delivered with a brand new bush in it anyway so i'm just waiting on it arriving.

The one that was in was pretty well butchered.

Check it out.

Oh, and I've decided to go with the cupra bushes as they were cheap enough so they're also on the way.

Hiya mate, are the vRS's If they are, and you dont mind, could you find out some info on the gearboxes.

I'm preparing for the worst situation atm :'(

No, there was no VRSs.

I'm amazed that the wishbone from another car could even be installed, let alone functional...

Any idea what it's off? Looks a fir bit meatier than the stock one?

I'm in Downpatrick,

one out of a 1.9 polo or Ibiza will fit,as will most chasis parts, brake lines the lot..you'd be better getting used one from a breakers, than one of the £30 new ones for the bushes in them are pure dirt...

Was there even a bush in that arm you photographed?

I seen you were looking the size of the outer cv boot clip aswell outter is 102.5 inner i can't remember think its 32.5 but a jubilee clip does it if your stuck...agnews were the only ones I could get the just clip off

I'm happy enough to run with the standard bush for a bit and to get the car up and running for a while and then I can change for a superpro or something like that. The front bush shouldn't actually wear so much in a wishbone like that. It's because the back bush is so bad, that it causes problems. A horizontal bush would have been a much more solid option.

The cv boot is on at the minute with a universal clip so hopefully that'll hold out for a while.

And yes there was a powerflex bush in it, shored up with black silicone sealant. Obviously an effort to fill the gaps where the damage was from removal of an old bush.

Having fitted Powerflex to mine and having a look at your photos.....

The bush should be a very tight fit....that hole was way to big even to allow for any damage....just proves it was the wrong arm!!!!!

Also because of this and the design "flaw" in the Powerflex bush, it look like the stainless steel tube part has eaten the hole bigger in the sheet metal subframe plate!! And on those photos it looks way big!!!!

Solution.. as I found is to get a repair or mudguard washer in M10 (and thread cut the centre to M12) or a M12 inside dia withan outside dia of 40mm or 50mm. Then place this (very tight fit) between the bush and the sheetmetal subframe plate. You might have to slacken off the steering rack bolts and the other wishbone bolts on the other side to unlock the subframe plate. This then allows you to slide the plate forward about 5mm to make the space for the bush bigger.

See my post... no3 B)

I haven't compared the hole in the subframe with the other side yet. If it needs a washer I can squeeze one in.

Believe you me..it is way to big (13mm should be)!! The steel subframe plate gets clamped between the bolt head and the bush, which locks it all in place....washer required.

ok i'll measure it up later if I get a chance and see how much damage it done.

Vertically it's 13.5mm and horizontally it's 14.25 at it's widest point where you can see a little wear. Still holds the metal bush center perfectly tight.

The metal bush tube is supposed to be "covered" by the subframe sheet metal as it gets clamped between this and the bolt....in that photo is looks like the tube will get pulled into the hole in the subframe....look on the otherside of that hole in pic (eg look from the bush side) and I bet the metal subframe plate is eaten!! If you are using OEM bushes then I think the centre tube is alot bigger so you won't need the washer......also make sure that the other side matches what ever you do to this side!!! B)

There's absolutely no chance of the tube getting pulled through. The other side is undamaged. The metal insert is quite thick. That's a powerflex bush.

You're lucky then.....mine ate into the subframe, which is why I had to fit the washer!! That tube is only a 3.5mm wall thickness...the SuperPro version is 5mm, and the OEM is thicker still!! So the Powerflex one is the thinest of them all! B)
