heated mirrors always ON

Featured Replies

The heated mirrors on my Mk1 seem to be permanently on.

Is this normal??

The switch for controlling the mirrors works for setting their angles but not heating.

Anyone seen this before?

I was playing with vcds the other day and on the fabia mine was set to unlimited when on the dimister setting. Changed it to 20 minutes the glass is starting to fail.

Yeah, always on.

I move the switch to either R or L then it's fine.

Mine (2001 Elegance) only work when the switch for the mirror adjustment is set to demist, and the rear window demister is on (plus the engine needs to be running too).

Mine are always on. It's great in the rain.

Same as mine

strangely...

Maybe they think diesel drivers have more time to press buttons and turn kn*bs to get their heated mirrors to work, where as if you have a vRS you are too busy running over school children* (or somesuch )

* only kidding [hahha, maybe I should say joking!] :giggle:

Mine is on all the time when the mirror switch is central (which is where I leave it) but the heaters turn off if you switch to L or R.

Arh, maybe it depends on what type of switch you have.

I have positions for:

- heat

- L+R

- R (or maybe L, I can't remember!)

where as it sounds as if you have:

- L

- heat

- R

my 2002 vRS always come on when demister is pressed

That is correct.

My handbook says that the mirrors are only heated when the rear screen heater is operating but that is incorrect. The mirror heating is a stand alone system and independant of the demister and rear screen.

I guess things change from year to year or software revisions.

Yeah sounds like a lot of people are just leaving them switched on, hence they are on!

The middle position is on, and turning the switch up or down to L or R turns them off.

If you select the right mirror and move it up and down, it will also move the left hand mirror up and down. But selecting and moving the left hand mirror does not effect the right hand side.

Mine only heat when the rear screen is on,the mirror switch is in the central position, and flicked rearwards.

I'll try switching it to L or R and see if that works. My battery is showing its age now and Im a bit skint so can do without having to sort out another bump/jump start... :wonder:

good to see clear and consistent features on the car

Heated mirrors only work when the engine is running so will not flatten the battery if the alternator is charging.
