Engine Oil Change

Featured Replies

Will the oil be drained from the sump or sucked out with some extractor device.

Reason I ask is I would prefer the oil to be drained so there is less residue or bits.

Cheers

My last SKODA main dealer service had an entry for a new sump drain plug and washer on the invoice. However, there is a belly plate under the car so I would assume many companies, perhaps especially independents, will want to save time and money by going in through the dipstick hole.

If they do that they may miss a few drops but they might not loose the screws on the belly plate and they can't strip the sump pan drain hole. So that is a good thing.

You should ask the service manager if you have to know, but unless you watch the buggers you have NO WAY of knowing what they get up to.

Also every garage i know now drop the sump plug and get the oil out the normal way, i new sump plug is around £1.20.

This tends to get replaced in most services can also stop them seizing to i s'pose

I serviced my car recently and had the intention of sucking the oil out as I didnt fancy removing the engine under tray to drain the oil through the sump. However the dipstick hole is really narrow and I didnt have a hose that with fit down it. So I ended up doing it the old fashioned way! Didnt take that much longer to be honest.
