changes for remap

Featured Replies

Hi, im new to skoda and this forum. I don't know a lot about cars so sorry in advance for any silly questions lol. Picking up a 04 1.8T vRS on thursday and getting it remaped on thursday afternoon lol. Is there anything that should also be changed on the engine to cope with the extra power? Cheers

Id recommend if it hasnt, a good service - oil/filter/air filter/plugs (perhaps some NGK bkr7e)/fuel filter and so on.

The original diverter valve can be problematic, but mine was fine for the 3-4 years it was on the car.

The list is endless! A lot of people are happy just to remap the car and leave the rest as standard. A service is a very good idea, as mentioned already. When I say the list is endless, i mean a lot of people want to change the exhaust, suspension, brakes, intakes etc etc in order to maximise the car overall! Surely though, upgrading the suspension is a good idea to help get the extra power down?

Thanks for the replys. Im after things that would brake unless changed. My m8 said put a forge diverter on it but the bloke doin the remap says it's not needed and recommends skodas anyway. He said if the part number ends in a N it's good to go. What do u think ?

The original diverter valve on the 1.8t engine was problematic, but the newer 710N one, like your mate said should be fine. You can buy 3 for the price of a forge one, so it's good value.

Apart from that, there's nothing else which HAS to be changed, no.

well i would do the rear arb, the standard car with 180 needs one without a doubt, let alone putting 200plus bhp through the front wheel....whats power without handling?!

If you haven't seen it already then this thread is well worth a look:

Your buying a car on Thursday and mapping on Thursday afternoon, blimey you don't hang about do you.

Not that it is a risk mapping but you don't leave yourself much time to service fix anything that may need to be considered. If it were me i would have serviced car drove a little to determine what if feels like in std form and understand the car a little. After you have remapped it you will not have anything to judge it by and understand weather the map was good or not. Perhaps that is me being pessimistic. :giggle:

other than that as others have said nothing needs replacing if everything is running ok and you know the servicing of the car has been kept up to date.

Good luck..

+1, took me 3-4 months before i fitted RARB and then a further 4 months before map. You may not want to take that long, but i think you really appreciate the changes better when phased in bit by bit. Also as Bowders points out you may not know what additional expense you might need to incur after buying the car, which might be things which are more critical than getting the map.

Thanks for the replys. Remaps on offer for £200 at the mo so gonna get it done, like the idea of better fuel consumption as well as power lol. Gettin a price for a new cam belt ect and i can get a diverter fitted for free if i get the part. How much would a RARB be roughly ? Cheers

Where do you get maps for £200 please? Seems to be the next cheapest after the £30 ebay one.

Cheers 352

Had mine done here http://www.more-bhp.com/

Ye thats who's doin it for me in Crewe M8

A friend of mine had his car done there and rates them highly.

Ive had the remap on for 4 years and havent had any issues. The only ones which may be highlighted are any potential weaknesses on the engine.
